The Glorious Sons Dallas Concert reviews
Enjoyable Show
First off, I would like to say that even though I grew up enjoying Rod Stewart's music, I wouldn't have considered myself a fan of Rod Stewart. I actually attended the concert mainly to see Cheap Trick perform as the opening act, and then I stayed for Rod's performance. According to Rod, the concert I attended was the kick-off show of the tour. This made sense because I felt that both Cheap Trick and Rod, along with his band, were still trying to find their groove and were clearly not yet performing on autopilot.
Despite this, both acts put on a good show. Cheap Trick's setlist included all the classic hits, starting with Dream Police and later Surrender, among others. However, I was disappointed with the sound mixing, as the lyrics often got drowned out by the instruments. The band members were lively and energetic, but there was minimal interaction with the audience between songs. I believe they were simply focused on hitting their marks for the opening show and ensuring they wrapped up on time for Rod. Personally, I found the pairing of Cheap Trick and The Glorious Sons to be an odd choice, although I did enjoy both performances separately.
As for Rod, he put on a pretty impressive show for a 77-year-old. The concert had a Vegas-like atmosphere, with a stage dominated by a large video board and multiple screens framing it. The digital visuals complemented the songs well, although they weren't particularly outstanding. Rod performed all his hits, with a total of 23 songs in the setlist, including an unexpected rendition of "If you want my body" that managed to avoid any discomfort. The inclusion of Celtic dancers and singers added a unique element to the show, with dance numbers and 80's hits sung by the women in the group. They even had an "acoustic" session towards the end, where the entire band sat on stools, which seemed to serve as a break for Rod, though he remained lively throughout.
In conclusion, it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The sound mixing during Rod's performance was excellent, and it was a treat to hear all the classic songs. I have a personal tradition of attending concerts of artists I want to see before they retire, and I was pleased that I caught Rod's show. It was inspiring to witness a 77-year-old still capable of delivering a 2+ hour performance. Overall, if you have the chance to attend this concert, I highly recommend it.
